I have fished all my life , since I was six years of age. My personal preference is for Game fishing with a Fly rod ; although my first rod was a Tank Aerial fishing for anything that would take the bait with my older brother, who didn’t always have the patience to untangle my line.
Later on in life I spent 20 odd years in the Merchant Navy; during that time my family and I moved into a small holding, which had a natural spring running through it, so I decided to create a small lake of about 2 1/2 Acres and stocked it with Brown Trout Fry , that my children obtained from a stream. After 8 or 9 months some of the trout were around 1lb and we had great fun catching them. This prompted me to start a Trout Fishery , which we ran for 10 years and had several write ups in various magazines , The Trout Fisherman , etc.
I have fished from Ballycroy in the far North West to Killarney in the South , and in my opinion Co Mayo has the best fishing in Ireland.
I worked as part-time Water Keeper and Angling Guide on the River Easkey at the Fortland Fishery, and have been guiding on the many varied waters of the North West for 14 years.
I hold a Season ticket on the East Mayo Anglers Section of the River Moy. I have considerable Knowledge of the pools and conditions on this wonderful stretch of River which has some beautiful Fly Water.
I have an Irish Game Angling Guides Certificate and I am approved by the Inland Fisheries & Tourist Board . I am also a full member of PAGI ( Professional Angling Guides of Ireland).
